Well, its all done, i still cant belive my old nose is gone for good. How do i look er...can you image an avatar hamster...well that about somes it up.

The day of the op

I had to be at Rodney street for 11.15, arrive at Bridgewater at 12.30 and my op was 2pm.  I was so excited, i really couldnt wait to leave the house. When i got to Cosmedicare i met Julie, she was having the same op as me.  She wasnt excited at all, she was very nervous. We spent the whole journey chatting about our forthcoming op, like we had been friends all along. She was lovely. We sat in the reception together, then my name was called, we said good luck to each other knowing the next time we would see each other it would be all over.

I was shown to my room and asked to put on the gown and the sexy paper knickers (i think anne summers have agreed to introduce these to their spring/summer collection....NOT). Lots of people came into my room one after the other, a nurse checked my blood pressure and i was asked some questions about my health. Then Dr Persicco came to see my and took some more pics, then the anesth... the man who makes you go to sleep. Then Paul, he took me down to theatre. He pushed the doors open, soo many machines and lights an people. I really thought i would be asleep before i went in.  I started to feel nervous for the first time. I lay on the bed, with my eyes fixed on the ceiling trying my hardest not to look around me. I was given a neddle and remember him putting an oxygen mask on my face. Then i woke up.

I wasnt quite sure where i was at first. The nurse gave me a glass of water to sip as i came around. I rember looking at the clock, it was 3.30pm. At 4pm i was wheeled to my room and helped into bed. i felt very sleepy.  Tea and toast was brought abit later on....mmmm the best tea and toast ever.

Lucy, my nurse checked on me regularly to see if i was ok or if i needed anything.  I had a visitor at about 6.30, it was julie. The  nurse had wheeled her to my room on the way to hers just so she could say hi.

I didnt sleep at all that night.  At 6.30am the nurse came to remove my packs from inside my nose. I can honestly say that is definatley the worst thing about Rhino. It was a horrible feeling, which made me sick. 9am, time to go home. Rosa the driver collected me and julie (sporting the same nose acessory) and dropped us both off at our homes.

Up to now im feeling pretty good, taking my painkillers when instructed and ive had no pain in my nose yet (fingers crossed i wont get any). The swelling and bruising seems to change daily so i will continue to add pics.

Me and my Rhino

I joined this forum to try and find out the real story about rhinoplasty.  To see it for real, to see how people really coped.

Ive disliked, no,hated my nosesince the age of about 15 (im now 24).The size and shape is out of proportion to the rest of me and wanted it gone.  ive toyed with the idea of surgery for many years but kept dismissing it for a few reasons:
1. the pain. the thought of the op made me feel ill
2. the cost
3.being embarassed to even admit i had a problem with my nose (strange i know, but hey)

So in February 2010 i decided enough was enough, it has to go.  i started by looking on the net, reading peoples stories and experiences, seeing lots of before and after pics.  Mostly reading how happy people are once they've gone for the "chop".  i finally plucked up the courage to ring a few clinics and get some more info.  i came across the number for Cosmedicare in Rodney Street Liverpool, took a deep breath and dialled. How would i cope with the op if i was scared to ring!!

I was greated on the other end of the phone by Frankie, she was lovely.  After i explained why i was ringing she talked me through the basics, the consultant, the sugery, the surgeon and put me at ease straight away. i ended the call feeling strangley excited.

I didnt mention to anyone what id been thinking and spent most of the night running through the pros and cons of the op in me head.  I came to the conclusion.... If you dont like what you were born with and there are ways to change it, then go for it!

My first call the next morning was to Frankie to arrange to meet with Elaine the cosultant. Friday 26th Feb 12pm. i had 2 weeks to decide who to tell,or if to tell at all.  I couldnt do this without my mum so i decided to wait until 2days before to let her know.  She said exactly what i thought she would "why do you think you need that"...."your beautiful the way you are" ....(yeah right). But when i explained my reasons she stared to come round to the idea...."what ever makes you happy".

Friday 26th Feb
the morning of the consultation i was sooo excited, i got to mums early. She couldnt believe her wimp of a daughter was looking forward to allowing someone to come at me with a hammer and chizel.
We got to the front door of Cosmedicare, i took  a deep breath and rang the buzzer. We were greated by Frankie, again she was lovely.  Mum and i were about ten mins early so Franke gabbed to us while we waited. "Have you been to see any other consultants?" Frankie asked, this was the first and hopefully the last. " its really straight forward" she said " you'll be in with Elaine for about an hour and a half, you'll try some bras on and different sizes" mum and i looked at each other and replied, in sterio "its Rhinoplasty!"  We fell about laughing. Frankie apologised perfusley, i didn't mind at all. She said "there you go i didnt even notice your nose" i replied laughin "but you think i need a boob job!!"

The consult with Elaine was wonderful, she answered all my questions without me needing 2 ask them.  She wanted to know exactly why i wanted the op and what i liked and dislike about my nose. The emotion of the experience made me cry, finally i was doing something about the "thing" thats been holding me back for so long.

I was finally getting somewhere, before i  left i made an appointment to see the surgeon Dr Persico on 9th March.  Im so looking forward to this change in my like and i hope Dr Persico is the man to help me do it.

I will write again after my meeting with Dr Persico
